Our History
Mariachi Latino was born in September 2021 in a garage as most bands!
Mariachi Latino is the first Mariachi band formed in Saskatchewan and the band received an award on October 15, 2022 for that reason.
Ana Hernandez came with the idea of forming a Mariachi Band to share some of the Mexican music that so many people around the world love.
The band consists of 10 musicians; most of them have a Latin root. It is a great cultural diversity and we all love performing our Latin music with pride.
The band consists of five women and five men, including a 12-year-old violinist.
In order to put the band together we had a few bigger challenges. The Mariachi outfits are not sold in Canada and they had to be brought from Mexico.
Some of the instruments are also not manufactured in Canada, and they are only sold in Mexico.
The band organized several fundraisers to make the dream possible. Some good hearted people gave us a remarkable donation, this person is Liliana Pomfret and we also got some funding from.
The band is very lucky to have a maestro called Martin Gonzalez. He is the professor with lots of experience on different instruments and instructs all the musicians in the band. He is from Jalisco, Mexico. The city in Mexico where the Mariachi was born.
The Mariachi Latino band rehearses from 2-3 days a week and as not everyone is Mexican, we have to try harder to memorize the rhythms and different lyrics.
For all of us, it is a blessing to have found such wonderful people to share music. Mariachi Latino band wishes to share good vibes and happiness through our music.
We wish to unify people and culture through our music, making everyone’s hearts beat at the same rhythm.
